About

Wendy Spivey-Shelley is an award winning, American Impressionist artist, who reached international artist and cover artist status in 2018. She is known for her bold vibrant use of colors. Her viewers get a taste of Early Americana style painting. She uses bold brush strokes with warm and cool colors, while pushing contrasting lights and darks to render expressive fine art oil paintings.

‌Born 1968 in Myrtle Beach, SC, Wendy Shelley has always had an inclination for being creative. She is passionate about painting and greatly enjoys her work, whether it’s in the quiet seclusion of her home studio, out in the fresh air of the country, beside the river’s edge of the Waccamaw, or taking in the gentle breeze of the Southern salt air down by the coast.

‌Taking from her own life experiences, Shelley’s work is very diverse. Wendy paints a variety of subjects to demonstrate her faith in God and to preserve her deep family roots of both Southern country lifestyle and Southern coastal living in Horry County.

She strives to make strong emotional connections with her viewers through her work as it tells of her Southern stories. She currently resides, with her husband of 33 years, in loris SC, on her family’s old homestead farmlands. They have 2 children and 4 grandchildren together.

‌During the late 1980s, at the age of 19, shelley completed her education in visual design at Bauder College in Atlanta, GA. After college she worked as a residential and commercial interior designer. It wasn’t until 2006 that she began her career as a fine art painter. Shelley’s work exhibits both the glory and pitfalls of the successful autodidact of fine art. She has won first place and people’s choice awards, locally. She also has national honorable mentions through the National Oil Painters of America Society. She has been featured many times by exhibits and galleries. She has also been featured in several magazines, news articles, and other publications, which include the 2018 spring edition cover of the Low Country Companion Magazine, On the Strand Magazine, The Carolina Forest Chronicles, The Loris Scene, and others. Her original works and reproductions can be found in private homes, on yachts, and in businesses across the US and abroad. Her paintings are sold in galleries, furniture stores, and other retail establishments along the SC Coast and into the NC mountains.
